Aspiration of Barium Contrast by a Geriatric Patient with Gastroparesis

Complications due to aspiration of barium contrast occur rarely during studies the digestive tract. While lung tissue can tolerate small amounts Barium large quantities exceed lung’s capacity and consequently lead death especially, in geriatric patients. affect pulmonary ventilation perfusion function, causing dyspnoea, hypoxemia respiratory failure. We herein report a swallow case which an 82-year-old woman aspirated on first was diagnosed with Gastroparesis. The history, procedure patient management are discussed. purpose is add existing literature cases outcomes after aspiration. Furthermore, this also highlights need for extra care when attending senior patients dysphagia studies.
